Welcome to the St. Mary's Syro Malabar Mission Wellington
Thank you for taking the time to visit the website of St. Mary's Syro Malabar Mission Wellington, New Zealand. St. Mary's Mission of the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Melbourne strives to live as a faithful Catholic community in Wellington. The members of this Mission are the Catholics of the Syro-Malabar Major Archiepiscopal Church, one of the most vibrant Eastern Churches in the Catholic Communion, who live in the greater Wellington Region. The Syro-Malabar Church traces back its origin to the preachings of St Thomas, the Apostle, in India.
It has currently 7 family wards comprising of more than 350 families. This Mission continues to grow in the footsteps of St Thomas the Apostle by celebrating the Syro-Malabar Liturgy in its Synodal form contributing towards the beauty of Catholic traditions. The Community is privileged to have daily Holy Qurbana (Holy Mass) at 27 Trebann Street, Paparangi. The community runs its Catechism Classes every Sunday, attended by more than 250 students and 25 volunteer teachers. We have a dynamic youth group known as SMYM.
The Community consists of migrated professionals of Catholic families from different dioceses hailing mostly from Kerala and different parts of India. The Community had its presence in greater Wellington since 2006 with once in a month Holy Qurbana assisted by priests of Syro-Malabar origin. Currently, St. Mary's Mission is one of the most vibrant communities in New Zealand.
Our Community strives to; grow together as a loving community in Christ, fostering the family faith life and following the ways of St. Thomas the Apostle. We are proud to say that we have always tried to keep up the faith handed down to us by our forefathers.
Our community is thankful to our friends, benefactors and well wishers especially to the Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington for all the support given and continue today. May the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all.
