St. Mary's Syro-Malabar Mission Wellington started their journey in 2006 only with a few families. From the last two decades the community has grown to a new level of spiritual and social among the people in Wellington Region.

The Syro Malabar Mission Wellington has been a part of Syro-Malabar Eparchy of St. Thomas the Apostle, Melbourne Australia. Pope Francis established the Eparchy on the 23rd of December 2013, and Appointed Bishop Bosco Puthur as the First Bishop. Syro Malabar Mission Wellington is one of the largest Syro Malabar faithful communities in New Zealand.
